On this date, I went on a sunrise photo shoot to D.C. to document unusually late wintry weather in the region. That morning, the temperature was 20 degrees at Reagan National Airport, and the Tidal Basin and Potomac River were covered in ice and snow.
Two days earlier, 5 to 10 inches of snow fell across the D.C. area on March 5. The winter of 2015 was cold and snowy, leading to a late peak bloom of the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin on April 10. It was the first time I remember seeing the Potomac River covered by ice during the second week of March.
