A jet stream disturbance sweeping by Saturday morning is likely to set off some snow and rain showers in the D.C. area. While some snow could fall in the Beltway area and to the south and east, temperatures will probably be too high — in the mid-30s — for much more than a coating on grassy areas. Rain may mix with the snow, especially from downtown D.C. and to the south and east.
The best chance of accumulation is north of Interstate 70 in D.C.’s northern suburbs, where a coating to an inch is possible; temperatures here will be near freezing as snow falls, so untreated roads and walkways could turn slick briefly.
This will be fast-moving, short duration event. Snow could break out just before dawn in Frederick and Loudoun counties and between 8 and 10 a.m. closer to the Beltway. Precipitation should only last for two to three hours in any one locations before quickly scooting away. Most precipitation should be east of the Bay by midday.
